Day 15.... Tyler continues to do well as we head into week three. He was up in the chair some more today. He got his chest tube out and his lung has stayed expanded throughout the day on its own. By the end of the day he is pretty worn out, physicial therapy is working with him. He is still nodding his head and will occasionally point on his own when he wants something. Still not completely awake. His right side of his body is waking up a little ahead of his left. But we pray that the left side will catch up eventually. His boots are doing a wonderful job. Bobby stopped and got him some more clothes, so he is now in t shirts and shorts. He is looking more comfortable in his own clothes. Anyone who has been in the hospital knows how glamorous and drafty those gowns are. So I am sure he is grateful to have his own clothes on!!!! The power of Prayer has been overwhelming. Thank You.

It is like, I read the first post and almost start to cry because of his accident. And now it is like I start to smile when I read these because he is progressing well. I am VERY glad he is able to open his eye or nod yes or no. I can't wait to see him again!
Still in my prayers!

This song reminds of Tyler every time I hear it. It's amazing what God can do when we trust in him and the peace we receive knowing we are in better hands.
Better Hands
It's hard to stand on shifting sand
It's hard to shine in the shadows of the night
You can't be free if you don't reach for help
You cant love if you dont love yourself
There is hope when my faith runs out
Cause I'm in better hands now
It's like the sun is shining when the rain is pouring down
It's like my soul is flying though my feet are on the ground
So take this heart of mine there's no doubt
I'm in better hands now
I am strong all because of you
I stand in awe of every mountain that you move
Oh I am changed, yesterday is gone
I am safe from this moment on
There's no fear when the night comes 'round
I'm in better hands now
It's like the sun is shining when the rain is pouring down
It's like my soul is flying though my feet are on the ground
So take this heart of mine there's no doubt
I'm in better hands now
It's like the sun is shining when the rain is pouring down
It's like my soul is flying though my feet are on the ground
Its like the world is silent though I know it isn’t true
Its like the breath of Jesus is right here in this room
So take this heart of mine there's no doubt
I'm in better hands now
I'm in better hands now
Our continues prays are with you!

Not sure how many of you out there in the blog world have had the opportunity to visit Tyler in the hospital. What a journey and what an amazing miracle we are witnessing. Seeing Tyler on Sunday in shorts and a t-shirt brought tears to my eyes because he looked so much like Ty again... It was so awesome!!
When I find myself awake during the nights and am using the quiet time for more prayers for Tyler, I have come to know a peace that I am appreciating so much.. Such a small verse comes to mind so many of the nights and I find myself in awe of it...
From Psalm 46:10 "Be still, and know that I am God!"
Everytime that comes to me, I feel it's God whispering and I find myself just nodding in agreement. Nothing more needs to be said.
Switching gears now, we are thinking of throwing a challenge out to two communities and their surrounding areas... Since Bob is a pretty competitive kind of guy =) and all of us that know him well understand that, here is the thought.
Those of you that have been up to the hospital, have probably at one time or another gone upstairs to The Ronald McDonald House. What an awesome place and what a great thing for families in this situation. Since Pop tabs are a well known symbol for this, my challenge that I want to present is going to be between the Archbold and Van Wert football teams.. =)
If we all start collecting pop tabs during the football season, think what we could give back to the Ronald McDonald House in appreciation for all it has done for the Priest family. A family that both of our communities have appreciated and come to love over the years. If we all do such a simple thing and have a little competitive fun with it, we can accomplish something pretty cool too.
Will get the details worked out and will post more on this later... Until then... start collecting Pop Tabs for Tyler!!
Ideas and suggestions can be sent to us at lrufenacht@aol.com.
Keep fighting this battle Ty.. we love you!!

Last night I, too enjoyed a visit with Bob and Kara and was blessed to see Tyler for the first time. I agree that he looked so relaxed in his red DARE shirt and silver shorts. Listening as Bob and Kara spoke words of encouragment to Tyler as he breathed without the vent was an awesome and moving experience. I could feel the presence of God in the room as Tyler fought to take back control of his breathing as his father's words encouraged him to breath deeply and slowly just like he does at the end of their runs. Tyler is our miracle and my life has been changed by watching his progress.
AS for the challenge... I am saving tabs already -- let's make a statement!
Darla
Keep up the progress tyler
we love you
and we are praying for you.
